We’re delighted to share our fourth annual Pro Bono Report: Invested for Good, which showcases 12 months of pro bono work with some of our fantastic community partners.

As the first law firm in Aotearoa to appoint a full-time Pro Bono Partner in 2020, we’re very proud to see our commitment to pro bono grow over the years. In the last 12 months, as a firm we have invested 7,300 pro bono hours into supporting our community partners - averaging around 35 hours per lawyer.

In this year’s Report, we profile the following community partners:

  • Lads Without Labels, a University of Canterbury mental health charity, dedicated to improving men’s mental health in Aotearoa
  • Wingspan Trust, providing affordable counselling to individuals and families in Auckland
  • Mothers Project, helping mothers to connect with their children in prison while separated from their tamariki
  • Monte Cecilia Housing Trust, providing housing-related services to low-income families
  • Mauao Trust, the entity entrusted to hold and govern Mauao (Mount Maunganui ) on behalf of the Tauranga Moana iwi.

Simpson Grierson Pro Bono Partner, Shan Wilson:

“I’m tremendously proud of how eager our team has been to upskill through pro bono work and how we’ve all collectively been able to support each other.

“Pro bono work has opened up opportunities for more client contact at an earlier level of qualification, promoted development of problem solving skills and pushed staff to learn new areas of law.

“Most importantly, it provides our people with the chance to use their legal skills to support charities and individuals who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford legal advice.”
